The new Global Distribution Centre is the Belgian logistics hub for the worldwide chocolate distribution of Barry Callebaut. To further strengthen Belgium as its business base, WDP opted for Lokeren to build the company’s new facility. And the direct connection with the E17 motorway and the Port of Antwerp will help make the flow of goods to and from the sites even more efficient.
This unique, sustainable project covers an area of 60,000 m² and is totally energy-neutral in its operations. Features include a ‘BREEAM Outstanding’ certificate, solar panels, low lifecycle cost materials, geothermal energy, recharging terminals for electric vehicles and extensive facilities for cyclists. The distribution centre itself will consist of a conventional warehouse and a fully automated high bay 40 metres in height. WDP has set aside around 100 million euro for the whole site.
